Accepting Reality

We don’t accept reality easily. This is where meditation comes in. And journaling, grounding, breath work. We need to be present with today, (e.g. here and now noticing the various greens of the trees and the patterned hazy clouds during our commute. Not ruminating on the “Oh shit, I have that 11 am meeting with my boss that I am not prepared for and 3 meetings after that”.)

Today, right now, I am accepting the reality that I have to prioritize my day because I won’t get to everything I want to accomplish. And tomorrow, Friday,  will be a sweep of just the biggest chunks, not the sand. And the grout grunge items on my action list that always seem to linger will not get scrubbed up this week (again!).

Being realistic with our abilities, pur time, our resources keeps us out of wishful thinking. My brain loves and craves that fantasy world where commutes take zero minutes so no travel time needs to be accounted for. The credit card is paid off right after (or before!) Vacation ends. I can run a half marathon at 60 as fast as I did at 40 years old. And oh yes. Email inboxes can be empty by Friday at 3 pm.

So we meditate to ground ourselves, we journal to clear the chattering monkeys, we walk barefoot to feel the soil, we notice pillows clouds reaching down, and we accept today will be today and I will be here, wherever that is.

(Laughter helps the absurdities of our fantasy brain helps too!)
