COVID Coping Day 6: Vitamins for the Soul

Posted by

My friend Liz suggested the theme “Vitamins for the Soul” for my blog because so many of us are past the last thread of hanging on. It is time to get very serious about taking care of ourselves. I take vitamins… mainly because Jennifer Aniston once quipped on a YouTube video with Jason Bateman that she takes “a lot of vitamins for her skin. I worship this woman, her resiliency to life’s difficulties, her easy-going and funny approach when folks make fun of her, and yes of course her looks too. She takes “Lots of Vitamin C”, she said. So I take Vitamin C, Biotin, turmeric, and a bunch of others for good measure.

But vitamins for our soul… think that one over. How much do we pay attention to those? What do you need on a practically daily basis to keep your soul going? What do you need to stay upright? To keep your sense of humor, to help you get out of bed in the morning and put on clothes? Can you limit it to a list of 3 things that, when completed, make your day easier?

Write your list on a 3 x 5 card, like Stephen Guise (author of Minihabits) recommends. I have to do have a list because I have decision fatigue early in the day (“Hmmm, should I brush my teeth first, or change clothes?”, “The dogs are acting hungry, should I feed them first or take them for a walk?”). If I don’t have a plan, I end up in my yoga pants at 10 am wondering how I have been awake for 3 hours and accomplished so little. Leave the card in your bathroom, right next to your toothbrush or workout clothes. See how it works and adjust as needed to keep you getting what you need to stay healthy.

Is meditation part of your medication???
